Physical Computing Midterm: Brainstorm

Prompt: Even though the setting is relaxed – a Tuesday afternoon “party” – you can use this as a chance to think through serious interaction design principles. What experience do you want to create? Who is your audience, and what expectations will they bring to the interaction? How do you incorporate the theme (Halloween)? How can you assemble hardware and code to support your idea? Can you make a (simple) bill of materials? Schedule? System diagram?

Our Idea: Ghost Prank Toy using air

Components:

  1. Solenoid valve
  2. Tubing
  3. Cheap air compressor,
  4. maybe some powdered sugar/flour
  5. IR proximity sensor
  6. Ghost cloth over air compressor

Design Questions/Thoughts:

Motion sensor or infrared sensor to let computer know to open valve.

Could it do something else instead of detect motion? Can user do something else with contraption?

Have a halo where people can pose for a photo – Only have it shoot randomly

Past Ideas

Halo Costume that follows with drone/camera – not feasible with time

Ghost Air Cannon with balloon/servo -> previous iteration of Ghost Air Toy

“Potion” setup where users have to fill each vial to programmed amount (randomized or specified for “cocktail”). Once amount is reached, liquid flows to cauldron. Once cauldron is full, bowl is opened with candy/food/olive/garnish
